MUSIC | Dewolff

Please give it up for the psychedelic bluesrockband Dewolff! You might not believe, but this trio comes from Dutch territory. Founded in 2007 in the deep south of Holland, in a province that would separate if they could, they only play together for a couple of years. From a small musiccontest to festivals such as Lowlands and Pinkpop, Dewolff must have done something very right. They produce a catchy sound with a main role for the 60's Hammondorgan, as a more melodic version of Australian brothers Wolfmother. What's in a name? The howling wolf is a apparently a great inspiration for t-shirt designers as well as musicians. The old bluesrocker, fully tattooed with a pint in his regular seat at the bar, would go mad on this sort of music. With it's roots in Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix and the Doors, the boys of Dewolff have young minds but old souls. Songs could go on for hours, with long jams and riffs, like Led Zeppelin's at least 8-minute-hits. The Dewolff show at Lowlands last year was musically amazing, but the band lost a part of their public by let their songs last too long. Would you like to see these young talents live? Applaus, gillende vrouwenkelen en een hele hoop lingerie richting het podium graag! De piepjonge heren van Dewolff spelen graag een tentje plat. Aan hun vreemde accent te horen (Ja man, ja man, ja man!) begon het avontuur in het diepe zuiden dat Limburg heet. Slechts vier jaar geleden vormde zich daar de psychedelische bluesrockband Dewolff, als melodische tegenhanger van bijna naamgenoot Wolfmother. De band produceert een catchy vorm van jaren '60- en '70-muziek, met een genadeloze solistenrol voor het Hammondorgel. Inspiratie putten ze uit grote namen als the Doors, Deep Purple en Jimi Hendrix. Het type flinke man met getatoeëerde mouwen en een vaste kruk aan de bar kan Dewolff wel eens heel erg waarderen. Nummers houden niet eerder op dan na een minuutje of 8, wat naast hun sterke punt ook een struikelblok kan zijn. Van popronde naar festivals als Pinkpop en Lowlands, waar het publiek een kortere aandachtsspanne heeft, is een levensgroot verschil. De keuze is reuze en zappen tussen de verschillende tenten gemakkelijk. Toch weet Dewolff een redelijk stabiele fanbase op te bouwen, en met hun jonge geesten maar oude zielen is dat vrij ongewoon. Ik heb ze vorig jaar al mogen bewonderen op het festival der Lage Landen, de band tourt tegenwoordig langs een aantal zaaltjes in Nederland. Geen tijd voor een live-indruk van Dewolff?
