WORDS | Authentic Self

Achievement is following the desires of your most authentic self.

I'm ok. What a contrast between this and last week, don't you think? The overwhelming amount of blogposts versus having no time for posts at all. Sorry for behaving as a bad blogger, but I worked day and night on getting in AMFI, the Amsterdam Fashion Institute. After filling in a application form and writing a motivation letter, Monday it was time for suitability tests. I cut with shaking hands, I spoke with shaky voice, in short: I was nervous as hell. A big thanks to the lovely comforting AMFI-people and the international students that were chit-chatting right away. Expect more goodies to come, since I now have in and about four weeks to shiver in silence, waiting for my positive or negative letter falling through the mailbox.

O ja, I've been a bad blogger.

FILM | Random Firl

Martina Scorcucchi | Morse code signals
Forty seconds of beeps, rewind shots and cult-like waterdrops crawling up the models sleeve. The overall vibe is madness. The girl could be a patient in a Psychiatric Department, struggling to get out. The open end is up to you...

SHOWstudio | Nick Knight, Karlie Kloss, Kate Phelan for Topshop
Even though Topshops latest collaboration with Mary Katrantzou sold out in nearly ten minutes, I couldn't hold back this short video with cooperations from the past ten years. Enjoy the artistic view on dozens of successful collections with Karlie Kloss as main (and mysterious) character.

Volt Magazine | Matthew Miller Man SS/12
Matthew Miller nailed it. The moment when the first concrete wall filled the screen, I did a little dance of joy. The under appreciated material is often found ugly, shallow and unfinished. In this mix-up, the white hairdo and crisp tailored trousers have found their perfect opposite in the raw concrete.

Karolina Zmarlak | Fall/Winter 2011
Bizarre how a dark tango and flower printed curtain complement each other. This Polish designer set up a strong collection with a double layer. The murderous twin-sisters chose a psychedelic approximation full of screaming and looking angry. Fine film with a dark undertone.

Brook&Lyn | Deflected Collection
Just a couple of days ago it was my time to discover jewelryblog Brook&Lyn. Her newest collection is floaty and playful, but with a philosophy. The soft pastels fit the vintagelook accessories perfectly. Definitely a designer on the run!

EDITORIAL | Pick-'n-Mix

While looking for inspiration, I was browsing through several magazines. The Dutch L'Officiel from December '11/January '12 was full of beautiful edited photographs and editorials, with this one standing out the crowd.

CRAVING | Ombre Boots

ph / Sincerely Jules

With all those Wang posts lately it almost looks like I am the PR-assistant behind him. I can not help it. Every new collection has several brilliant pieces I crave for. How about these simple boots with subtle ombre nose? Meet Constance, black leather ankle boots with Midnight brush-off. The effect like you've accidentally kicked over the blue painting that was meant for your bedroomwall. 'Oops...'

Wang, wang, wang. Niets is minder waar. 'Oeps...'

LFW | Topshop Unique A/W '12

ph / Vogue, Topshop, Private

Leather dungarees, velvet boiler suits, full-length military coats: Unique by Topshop's new collection is all about utility dressing gone glamorous. Grungy leather turned out to be sexy, lace-up army boots are not only to walk in the mud with and low-slung skirts tried to break the military look a bit. The Topshop Unique Show was one-of-a-kind, and moreover wearable to pieces.

Structure plus slouch minus glitter equals edgy. The main element in the show was the mixture of fabrics and prints instead of the silhouette. Soft wool combined with sculptured leather, sleek hair with a firm hat on top. Work- and outerwear are (just as intimate wear) good friends to layer with. Topshop kept it natural, with simple hairstyles and a minuscule touch of eyeliner. Together with the workerboots (no heel, no nonsense) the Unique show was one of the more realistic shows of the week. And no need for columns on how to buy 'from catwalk to closet', no, these clothing is actually affordable. Bring on the attitude and stand firmly to the ground. A middle finger to the regime and the Unique's message is clearly understood.

NEW IN | Zara Wallet

I created my own Eveline Wang Objects Collection! I wanted to introduce you to my newest accession, a Zara wallet. It was gifted to me by my sister, while walking through the sale collection. I don't know why, but somehow the mass of the people do not buy what I like, so the objects in sale are mostly my taste. So is this wallet, inspired by the silver corners Wang also uses in his wallets and small boxbags. The last wallet I got was one from Portugal, at least eight years ago. Time for some refreshing. This is what you see, clockwise:

1. Chanel N°5 Perfume - Gifted to my sister and me as a very special symbol
2. My new scrapbook from Dutch warehouse HEMA - I use it as a style scrapbook for my interview next week
3. Zara Wallet - Also black...
4. Big scrapbook - More for notes and larger interviews or lectures
5. H&M's sunglasses - Old, I bought these over a year ago but there is still no scratch on it!

FASHION BLOGS | Current favourites

A few minutes rare sparetime? I spend them as a wanderlust going through the undiscovered world, consisting of pages and pages unique photographs, illustrations and inspiration. The Blogs. Even though curious eyes sometimes make me go off the path, into the woods of architecture and lakes full with melodies, fashion blogs still make my heart beat the fastest.

Audrey Rogers | Frassy
Take Audrey Rogers for example. Frassy (the spontaneous overflow of fashion) is colourful, playful, well edited and fun. This freelance photographer moved from her American hometown to Ireland, Spain and England and she has been settled in the city of love lately. Paris is an inspiration for the 23-year old queen of styling. Big furs, odd combinations and loads of colour form the platform where Audreys eh, platforms are walking on. Like reading better? The diary of her sporadic soul is full of personal, frisky notes.

Neem Audrey Rogers als perfect voorbeeld. Frassy (the spontaneous overflow of fashion) is kleurrijk, speels, well edited en vooral fun.

Ana Agulló Martín | Tu Me Plais Coco
This tough Spanish 'lady' smokes her lungs black. But, when someone does it this stylish, we'll forgive her. The irresistible cloud of smoke is just one of the great accessories in Ana's wardrobe. How about yellow neon clutches, tons of hats and a dark Wintour's short cut? Tu Me Plais Coco is as the blog everyone would love to have, but it is owned by the coolest kid in class. Spending hours of staring at her back instead of the teacher. Now 2.0...

Gewoon 2.0...

Diana Enciu and Alina Tanasa | Absolutely Fabulous
Last in line; the sisters-in-fashion Diana and Alina. Two opposites, one blonde, one dark. One futuristic, one classic. But both Absolutely Fabulous! The website has just gotten a new lay-out to develop the PR-work of these gorgeous women. The vintage broches, panterprints and busy outfits are not always my piece of cake, but overall they just are inventive.

Yes, I am guilty too. Owning a rococo duffle knock-off bag but craving for a real copy. Your once so abominable smoking habit just got a bit less worse with an ashtray from the hand of A. Wang. Lighters, coasters, bike locks and matte black playing cards, all from $29,-. So bring home some Wang and transform your dull apartment with a flash of cool.

CLOSE UP | Proenza Schouler A/W 2012

ph / Vogue, Refinery29, private

Mighty as a samurai, fast as a ninja. The Proenza Schouler Autumn/Winter collection 2012 was definitely inspired by the old Asian kingdom with mighty emperors and humble people. Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough created a daring show, in which they proposed new silhouettes and headed East for inspiration—think karate, kimonos and Yoko Ono. Last had the honor to provide the runway track of the show. "It's Asian," said Hernandez, describing the collection's look, "but in a New York way." Deep red, shocking blue varied with lighter, pastelhues form the base of the colourpalette. What I find appealing in a great runway show is cohesion or unity in thoughts, challenging silhouettes and empowering materials. I did not have to look for one of these. Proenza Schouler took all of my wishes and created a show of dreams. I just pretend I didn't see the kitchy metallic blazers which felt a bit cheap-chinese-wok-restaurant. Just squeeze your eyes so those pictures become one hazy glitter finale. Enjoy these mix of backstage photos, details, runway looks and take-away Chinese.
