EDITORIAL | MANIAMANIA

Deze editorial mag eigenlijk niet eens zo genoemd worden. Ondanks dat de foto's eruit zien alsof ze zijn geschoten door Mario Testino is de serie Dust puur een commerciële reclame. Maar dat mag de pret niet drukken, want wat er wordt verkocht is zeker een artikel waard! In 2009 werd MANIAMANIA opgericht door de Australische dames Melanie Kamsler en Tamila Purvis. Ze omschrijven hun sieraden als onwerkelijk, surrealistisch en mysterieus. Die kenmerken zie je zeker terug in deze fotoserie Dust. Bambi Northwood-Blyth belichaamt het surrealistische met haar immens grote ogen en dromerige blik. De diaprojector zorgt voor wat extra psychedelica door vage foto's van het heelal te tonen. In principe staan niet de sieraden, maar de hele sfeer centraal bij MANIAMANIA. Mijn favoriete piece komt uit de laatste collectie Rêve. Het is de geupgrade versie van een ring van de Topshop die ik een jaar geleden van mijn vriendje cadeau kreeg. De Immortals Ring bestaat uit bronzen zeewier dat een blauwe steen draagt, prachtig!

Australian art director and stylist duo Melanie Kamsler and Tamila Purvis joined forces in 2009 to form jewellery MANIAMANIA. For their Dust-collection, they choose model Bambi Northwood-Blith, an hype in fashionworld since last year. In the short and distracting film on the start page, you'll discover Abbey Lee Kershaw, also an important name in the business.
These beautiful photo's of the Dust editorial breath mysticism, magic and fantasy. I've always been a fan of photoshoots with an overhead projector. It seems to make simple photo's just a little bit more psychedelic. It's not just this editorial that makes me a sucker for Mania Mania, their jewellery is just simply amazing. They make simplistic metallic pieces, but also precious rings with (so it seems) bronze seaweed and gemstones.

They've shot two short film of Dust which will be shown in the next Monday, Filmday.
